The more than nine hundred employees attending the end-of-year Akrapovič workers’ assembly were treated to a real surprise when Team SUZUKI ECSTAR MotoGP racer Maverick Viñales took the stage. Last year’s rookie of the year also took the opportunity to check out the development of Akrapovič’s exhaust systems at the company, which is based in Ivančna Gorica, Slovenia.
The 2013 Moto3 world champion talked to the employees about his racing career – which, even though he is only twenty-one, already goes back eighteen years. He also shared the feelings he experienced in this year’s season when he achieved his first victory in MotoGP at the Silverstone Circuit, and he spoke about his hobbies and also about his impressions from his visit to Akrapovič headquarters for the first time. Before heading to Akrapovič’s employee event, the Spaniard saw how Akrapovič develops exhaust systems in Ivančna Gorica, including racing systems. He has quite a lot of experience with Akrapovič systems, having already raced with the brand in Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP. Viñales also toured Akrapovič’s in-house foundry, which produces complex titanium exhaust-system components, before he checked out development work on the latest ultra-light exhaust systems for performance cars. “To be honest, I was really surprised. I didn’t expect so much hard work would go into an exhaust. It’s important to have support from a brand like Akrapovič,” Maverick said after his tour of the Akrapovič facilities.
An incredibly large number of employees were eager to get Viñales’s autograph at the event, and the hall was filled with flashes from mobile phones because everyone wanted to get a selfie with last year’s MotoGP rookie of the year. After shaking hands all around and filled with new impressions from Akrapovič, Maverick Viñales headed to the airport and flew off to tackle the new season.
